Roswell: The New Mexico Military Institute Bronco Volleyball team continued its winning ways, taking home their fourth tournament title on the year by going undefeated in the Western Texas College Tournament in Snyder, TX.
The tournament showcased five teams, all from the NJCAA’s Region V, save Navarro College out of Corsicana, Texas (Region XIV) who the Bronco started off against and defeated in four games: 25-15, 25-11, 23-25, 25-22.
Next up was Ranger College. Unfortunately no game scores were immediately available for this match, but the Broncos won, 3-0.
Third round opponents were the tournament hosts, Western Texas College, and again the Broncos needed just three games to get the victory – 25-13, 25-11, 25-22.
The final round-robin match was against Brookhaven College, with NMMI sweeping the Bears – 25-13, 25-6, 28-26.
“They played great. Mercedes [Tuia] had a great weekend with 43 kills and 50 digs,“ said Bronco coach Shelby Forchtner. Other tournament stats for the Broncos:
Kristi Hager, libero – 61 digs
Mikayla Delobel, middle – 14 blocks
Stephanie Brown, outside hitter – 38 digs and 23 kills
Marta Dziula, middle – 31 kills
This marks the last regular-season tournament the Institute will attend this season, and play will now be focused solely on the second half of conference, with four matches vs. Western Junior College Athletic Conference opponents, including Clarendon College at home on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. Currently the 12th ranked Broncos are a perfect 4-0 in conference and 31-6 overall.
