Class 1A and 2A Baseball Title Games Set

Albuquerque: State championship baseball games have been set for Wednesday afternoon as Gateway Christian and Mesilla Valley square off in the Class 1A game at Isotopes Park and that will be followed by the Class 2A title game between Loving and Eunice.

In Tuesday’s 1A semi-final action, Gateway’s Joe Camp pitched a two-hitter as the Warriors beat Elida 16-1 in five innings.

Gateway exploded for 11 runs in the third and added a five spot in the fourth inning.

Camp also went 3-5 with five RBI. Tony Garcia added a long ball and had three hits.

In the other 1A semi-final game, Mesilla Valley needed an extra inning to outlast Victory Christian 18-17.

Mesilla Valley scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to go the extra frame and won it with a single run in the bottom of the eighth.

In Class 2A, Shane Thomas threw a five-hitter as Eunice beat Estancia 7-2. Ulises Lozano went 2-3 for Eunice as did Mark Newton.

In the other semi-final game, Loving scored in all six innings as the Falcons beat Lordsburg 12-2.

Leo Hernandez was the winning pitcher for Loving going the distance and yielding three Maverick hits.

Hernandez was also 2-3 with a homerun, to help his cause.
