ADA, OKLA. — The Eastern New Mexico University baseball team scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning as play resumed from Saturday’s suspended game, tying the contest at 6-all, but East Central (17-30; LSC 14-21) plated three runs in the sixth inning to pick up a 9-6 victory over the visiting Greyhounds (21-21; LSC 14-17) in Lone Star Conference action Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field.

The Greyhounds took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on back-to-back two-out singles from Seth Clabaugh (Jr., RF, Portales, N.M./Portales HS) and Paden Vendrely (So., C, Deming, N.M./Deming HS). The Tigers capitalized on a throwing error in the bottom of the inning, taking a 4-2 lead with three of the runs being unearned.

In the top of the second, the Hounds trimmed their deficit to 4-3 after Chris Eaton (Fr., 1B, Albuquerque, N.M./Cibola HS) drew a leadoff walk advanced on a Sean Cruce (So., SS, Clovis, N.M./Clovis HS) single and Clayton Young (Jr., LF, Canyon, Texas/Canyon HS) bunt; and scored on a sacrifice fly to center field from Jonathon Marbury (Sr., CF, El Paso, Texas/Ranger/Montwood HS). ECU added runs in the third and fourth before the game was suspended due to lightning.

In the Hounds’ first at bat after the game resumed on Sunday morning, they sent nine batters to the plate and capitalized on three walks to score three runs. Tyler Hayes (Sr., 2B, Houston, Texas/Aliet F. Hastings HS) and Clabaugh had a RBI ground outs in the inning and ENMU tied the game on a bases loaded walk to Eaton. The Tigers scored three in the bottom of the sixth to seal the game, with Lucas Armenta driving the go-ahead RBI single through the left side of the ENMU infield and Jared Owen following with a two-run single three batters later.

Eaton and Cruce both extended their hitting streaks to seven consecutive games, while Vendrely went two-for-four at the plate with one RBI.
