by ENMU Athletics

Portales, N.M.— Eastern New Mexico University men’s basketball coach Shawn Scanlan has announced the signing of Aaron King (Jr., 6’1”, G, Los Angeles, Calif./Cerritos College/Mayfair HS), Equs Darby (Jr., 6’6”, F, Lake City S.C./Feather River College), Dannon Wafer (Jr., 6’2”, F, Galveston, Texas/Trinity Valley CC) and Justin Reynolds (6’1”, Jr., G, Danville, Va./John Wood CC (Ill.)/George Washington HS) to National Letter of Intents to play for the Greyhounds in the 2008-09 season.

Guards King and Reynolds should help to bolster the ENMU back court. Reynolds was the Trailblazers’ second leading scorer, pouring in 10.4 points and 4.2 assists per game. He connected on over 30 percent from beyond the three-point line and 82.5 percent from the free throw line. Against Rend Lake, he recorded a season-high 21 points, and he hit seven-of-eight free throws against Illinois Central. King registered 10.3 points and just under one steal per game. He shot .419 for the season from the floor and .784 from the free throw line. In a victory over Los Angeles Harbor, he poured in 18 points, shooting six-for-ten from the floor and six-for-eight from the charity stripe.

Wafer and Darby should provide the Greyhounds with size and versatility in the paint. Wafer hit 55.4 percent of his shots from the floor and averaged 10.5 points at TVCC, helping the Cardinals finish with 11 conference victories. Darby averaged 11.2 points, eight rebounds, five steals and three assists per game and was a First Team All Golden Valley Conference Selection following the 2007-08 season. He shot 16-of-23 over his final two games at FRC, scoring 31 points in a win over Siskiyous and 25 in a victory over Redwoods. His performance helped the Golden Eagles record 11 wins in the conference.
