by NMHU Athletics

Las Vegas, NM: Five former Cowboy baseball players are currently doing very well in the minor leagues. Cowboy head coach, Steve Jones, is extremely proud of his former player’s success as well as how well they represent Cowboy baseball. Travon Jackson, Rich Janeway, Evan White, Bryan Fryer, and Chris Chavez have all moved on to continue playing organized baseball around the country.

Travon Jackson has recently signed with the Orange County Flyers in the independent Golden Baseball League. Jackson is hitting .450 after just 5 games with the Flyers. He joins fellow NMHU alumni in the Golden League, Rich Janeway, assistant baseball coach and former player (2005) and Evan White a former pitcher for the Cowboys (2006-2007). Janeway is currently hitting .337 with 10 doubles and 3 homeruns and White is 2nd in the League in K's and is 3-1 with a 3.13 era.

Brian Fryer (2003-2004), a 20th round draft choice of the San Diego Padres is currently playing for the Fort Worth Cats in the American Association. Brian is hitting .300 with 24 steals to date. Fryer was a starter in the American Association all-star team and the "Cats" won the American Association championship. Note; Travon Jackson broke Fryer's NMHU hit record this season finishing with 111 hits. Fryer previously held the record with 104.

Chris Chavez (2006) signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Royals in the summer of 2006. He is currently 6-1 with the Burlington Bees, a single A affiliate with the Royals. Chavez sports a 2.53 era and is working primarily out of the bullpen this season.
