Greyhound Soccer Team Falls at #16 West Texas A&M
by ENMU Athletics
CANYON, TEXAS— Freshman goal keeper Alistair Caldwell (Fr., GK, Kilmarnock, Scotland/Grange Academy) made three saves in net for the Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team (7-3-1; LSC 0-2), but the Greyhounds dropped a 3-0 decision in Lone Star Conference action to 16th ranked West Texas A&M (8-1-1; LSC 1-0-1), Wednesday afternoon at The Pitch in Canyon, Texas. Eastern entered the contest ranked fifth in the latest NSCAA South Central Regional poll.
The Buffaloes took the lead 50 seconds in to the game, when Ben Everson tallied his 12th goal of the season after taking a cross pass from Victor Olivares from eight yards out. West Texas added second half goals from Manuel Garcia and Jacob Fynboe Jensen to provide the 3-0 margin.
West Texas A&M held a 10-6 edge in shots, including a narrow 6-5 margin in the second half. Emerson Rodrigues (Jr., F, Natal, RN, Brazil, Colegio Objectivo Potiguar) and Artur Oliveira (Sr., MF, Natal, RN, Brazil/Colegio Imaculata Conceilao) each had a shot on goal for Eastern, both coming in the second half.
The Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team will return to action next Tuesday, when they visit Hardin Simmons University from the American Southwest Conference. Match time is scheduled for 3 p.m. MST.
