Luna and Armijo sign at NMHU

Mathew Luna and Zach Armijo are going to realize a dream. The duo has signed national letters of intent to wrestle at New Mexico Highlands University.
Mathew is the son of David and Elaine Luna and is a three time state champion at 119 as a sophomore and 125 his junior and senior years. Zach is the son of Ruth Ann and Randal Armijo and was a state champion as a junior in the 145 pound division. Armijo fell short of a championship his senior coming out second. Both wrestlers were members of two team state championship wrestling teams at Robertson High School. “These are great individuals who will have successful college career, both in wrestling and academically,” said Coach Richard Martinez, “I will miss them.”
Robertson has become a wrestling power house in 3A, winning 5 of the last 7 state team titles. Robertson has become the Artesia of Wrestling they don’t rebuild they reload with 4 state champions coming back expect another title run for the Red Birds in 2008. Returning will be Jake Martinez, Daniel Martinez, Wally Diaz, Luciano Urrutia. Robertson’s feeder program has athletes that could be wrestling varsity at other schools, for the Cards only the best get to dawn the red and white singlet. Coach Martinez has surrounded by a solid coaching staff from the middle school all the way up to the varsity and the consistency has paid dividends. “Excellent coaching staff, great parents and great support,” said Martinez, “are keys to a successful program.”
