Mark Cassidy Calls it quits

Mora Rangerettes head basketball coach Mark Cassidy resigned abruptly Thursday Morning effective immediately. Mora Athletic Director Manuel Romero confirmed Coach Cassidy had turned in his letter of resignation and Assistant Coach David Salcido would finish up the season which ends next week as well as any post season play the Rangeretts will qualify for. The Rangerettes are ranked #4 in the latest NMOTSC.com coach’s poll.

Cassidy led the Rangeretts to a AA State Championship in 1998, and has had the Rangerettes in the thick of his division year and year out. “Coach Cassidy was more than a coach to me,” Says former Mora athlete, Alicia Garcia, “He was my mentor, and continues to be friend.”   Garcia played for Cassidy all of her five years in high school since 8th grade.

“It’s a shame that Coach Cassidy had to leave the Rangerettes, he’s been in the business a long time and is very knowledgeable about the game,” said Benny Ortiz, former Robertson Head boys and girls basketball coach, “not knowing the details, I would say it surprises me, anyone would ever question his decisions, Mark is a true student of the game.” Cassidy was an assistant to Ortiz in 2002 when Ortiz coached the Cardinals.

Well, it seems like to me that from knowing coach Cassidy personally that he will once again roam the coaching box, but until them I will be satisfied in seeing him daily at the IC Church where he attends mass religiously. Coach Cassidy still has a lot of basketball knowledge in his head and there are still a lot of young minds which he will have an opportunity to mold
