NM State Football Hosts Junior Day
by NMSU Athletics
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State football staff hosted a ‘Junior Day,’ Tuesday, June 23, for prospective student-athletes from the surrounding areas that will be seniors in 2009-10. The day was designed to give prospective student-athletes exposure to a very skilled and seasoned Division-I coaching staff, with the opportunity to ask questions about the NM State football program and to learn about their philosophies.
"I am deeply committed to recruiting the state of New Mexico,” head coach DeWayne Walker said. “We were excited about our attendance at our football camp/seven-on-seven tournament. However, it is unfortunate that the attendance wasn't what we expected. We want to recruit hometown guys. We want to take care of our backyard. Very few hometown players showed up. This was a day to sell the University and the program and the attendance just wasn't there. We worked hard as a staff to get together and come up with a thorough, detailed itinerary so prospective Aggies and their parents could learn about the University and the program. And the attendance was just not there."
The day was filled with a highlight video on NM State football, a presentation from Walker about the team’s goals and philosophies, a campus tour, a facilities tour of the Coca-Cola Weight Center, Aggie Football Meeting Rooms and locker rooms, as well as presentations from the compliance office, campus housing and an equipment presentation.
