NMHU to Host 2007 NCAA Western Regional / RMAC Conference Tournament

by NMHU Athletics

Las Vegas, NM: New Mexico Highlands University will be the host of the 2007 NCAA Division II Western Regional / Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on March 1, 2007. All matches will take place on the NMHU Campus inside the John A. Wilson Complex.

This will be a day of non-stop action as the NCAA, the RMAC, and NMHU get to showcase one of the toughest wrestling conferences in the country. 5 out of the 10 teams competing in the tournament are ranked in top 20 in the nation, 3 of them are in the top 5; Adams State College is #3, Western State College is #4, the University of Nebraska at Kearney is #5, and Chadron State is #16. Fort Hayes State University will also be competing at the tourney, and they have been in and out of the top 20 rankings all year.

Many top individual wrestlers will be competing in the tournament as well. The RMAC boasts what most conferences can’t, the RMAC has at least 2 wrestlers ranked in the top 8 nationally in each weight class. NMHU’s very own Jesse Feinsod (27-12) is the lone Cowboy to be ranked. Feinsod is #3 in the nation going into the tournament. NMHU has 3 other wrestlers that are looking to make some noise at the regional tourney. Ross Montour (11-6), will be in the running for his 2nd Regional Chamionship, he was the champ in the 141 pound weight class in 2007. NMHU Heavyweight, Jesse Boggs (24-12), also has a strong chance to finish in the top 4 to advance on to the national tournament. 157 pounder, Trey Saxon (23-12), also has a chance to earn a place at nationals. Coach Doug Moses is very excited to be able to showcase such fine wrestling as well as NMHU and its athletic teams.

The action starts at 9:00 am on Saturday, 3/1/08. Tickets go on sale at 7:30 am the day of the tournament. Tickets can be pre-purchased (in-person only, no phone call orders will be accepted) at the John Levra Football Fieldhouse all week leading up to the tournament.
