NMMI Basketball Player Signs With Ottowa University

by NMMI Athletics

NMMI: DeMarcus Doucette,  the stand-out 6'1" senior point guard for the high school Colt basketball team this year, has what it takes to play college ball. He'll get his chance to prove and improve his ball-handling skills while studying at Ottawa University next season, an NAIA Division II school in Ottawa, Kansas

This OU, nicknamed the Braves, boasts a basketball program  that went 24-9 overall last year and 14-4 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.  The Braves managed to put four team members on the All-Conference team, including the conference player of the year.  Not surprisingly, head coach Andy Carrier walked away with this year's conference coach of the year award as well. The Ottawa Braves also showed well in the post-season, defeating a number 8 seed before a loss in the second round of the NAIA Division II Men's National Basketball Tournament.

Doucette led the NMMI Colts' basketball team to a 14-17 record this season, a 19-11 record last season and to their second straight post-season appearance in the New Mexico State Boys' 3A Basketball Tournament. During his last two seasons at NMMI, DeMarcus averaged 12.1 points, 6.7 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game.
