NMSU 2008 Football Schedule

by NMSU Athletics

LAS CRUCES New Mexico State director of athletics McKinley Boston today announced the home opponents for the 2008 football schedule.

On Saturday, September 6th, the Aggies will host Wyoming in one of two non-conference home games.  The other non-conference home game will be played on September 27th against in-state rival New Mexico.  Both non-conference opponents hail from the Mountain West Conference and are in the Division I Bowl Subcommittee (former known as Division IA).

In addition, four WAC opponents will travel to Las Cruces to take on the Aggies.  The four opponents include two teams that have played in a BCS game the last two years and have been ranked in the Top 10 in the nation.  This past season, Hawaii was the only team in the country to finish the season undefeated and played Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.  Last season, Boise State was the only undefeated team in the nation and defeated Big 12 champion Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.  Both Hawaii and Boise State will play the Aggies in Las Cruces in 2008.

The other two WAC opponents that will visit Aggie Memorial Stadium are Louisiana Tech and San Jose State.  Louisiana Tech and San Jose State both came within a victory of being bowl eligible last year and return teams that are expected to fight for a WAC championship.

“This is the best home football schedule that we have had in recent history,” said McKinley Boston.  “With four strong WAC opponents and two solid non-conference home games, our fans will have access to six quality games right here in Las Cruces.”

The six road games the Aggies will play include non-conference tilts against UTEP and Nebraska and WAC matchups at Fresno State, Idaho, Nevada, and Utah State.

The dates for the home games against WAC opponents will be set in late February or early March after ESPN has selected its televised games.  At that point, the WAC office will complete the schedule and forward it to the schools.

Season tickets deposits will be accepted starting on January 21st. Fans will have the ability to reserve season tickets for the 2008 season with a $25 non-refundable deposit per ticket.  Seat selection will be done a first-come, first-served basis. This means that the sooner a deposit is received, the sooner a fan will have access to choosing his or her seats. Call the Pan American Center ticket office at 646-1420 for more information.
