Denver, Colo. -- The Western Athletic Conference announced its all-WAC teams and coach and players of the year awards as voted upon by the WAC’s nine head coaches Monday afternoon. The New Mexico State football team honors as wide receiver Chris Williams, offensive lineman Mike Martinez and linebacker Dante Floyd were named to the second team all-WAC squad.

Williams (Rio Rancho, N.M.) played in just eight games for the Aggies before a season ending injury in the Idaho game. Despite missing the last five games he led the team in reception yards with 772 and touchdowns with 11. His 56 receptions on the season were second on the team, while averaging 95.5 receiving yards per game and 13.8 yards a reception. Williams returned six punts for 100 yards, tallied 66 points and 1,023 all-purpose yards. He moved into third all-time in receptions (160), fourth in reception yards (2,284) and second in touchdown receptions (23), including four 100-yard receiving games and a career-high 221 yards receiving yards and to touchdowns against UTEP.

“There is a lot of good receivers in this conference and I think that Chris getting this honor is a tribute to him, that he has the respect from the league’s coaches,” head coach Hal Mumme said.

Martinez (Aurora, Colo.) was the Aggies’ starting left tackle in 2006 and 2007. In fact, Martinez started 49 consecutive games for the Aggies on the offensive line during his career. In 2007, he helped the Aggie offense to finish the regular season fifth in the nation in passing offense with 331.9 yards per game and 34th in total offense with 423.5 yards a contest. Martinez also helped protect quarterback Chase Holbrook who was second in the conference in passing yards per game and total offense.

“Mike worked really hard for us at left tackle and center for us over the last three years,” Mumme said. “He is well deserving of this honor because of his outstanding year. No one works harder then Mike does.”

Floyd (Oakland, Calif.) started all 13 games for the Aggies at middle linebacker. He led the Aggies with 124 tackles on the season, while grabbing a team-high four sacks, 12 tackles-for-a-loss, an interception, six pass break-ups and a forced fumble. Floyd was sixth in the conference and 40th in the country in tackles per game with 9.5. He recorded seven double digit tackle games on the season.

“Dante had a tremendous season,” Mumme said. “I think his success was an exclamation point on Woody’s career, as he finished with five straight all-conference linebackers. I think Dante will have a good shot at the next level.”
