Reid and Madigan Place in Top-10 for NMSU Men's Golf

LAREDO, Texas– Two New Mexico State men’s golfers finished in the top-10 at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas, Saturday, March 15.

Junior Travis Reid (Clovis, N.M.) and freshman Tim Madigan (Rio Rancho, N.M.) tied for eighth with a 1-over-par 217 in the three-round tournament.  Reid fired rounds of 68-73-76, while Madigan shot rounds of 74-71-72.

“Travis (Reid) is a good and consistent player,” head coach Scott Lieberwirth said.  “We can depend on him to play well for us, and Tim (Madigan) continues to grow as a player.”

As a team the Aggies carded a 19-over-par 883 (292-291-300) to finish in sixth in the 14 team tournament.  The University of Arkansas won the Border Olympics team title with a 3-over-par 867, while Lamar came in second and five strokes behind the winner with an 8-over-par 872.

Baylor’s Colston Williams won the individual medal with a 9-under-par 207.  The three second place finishers were seven strokes behind with a 2-under-par 217.

Coming off some great play in the last tournament Houston hosted, sophomore Josh Stewart (Albuquerque, Eldorado HS) carded a 10-over-par 226 (74-75-77) in the 2008 Border Olympics and tied for 38th.

Senior Matt Edwards (Henderson, Nev.) rounded out the tournament in tie for 45th with a 13-over-par 229, while junior Brent Hook (Mesa, Ariz.) tied for 71st with a 23-over-par 239 (76-78-75).

Next up for the NMSU men’s golf team will be the Ron Moore Invitational hosted by Denver, which will be played in Goodyear, Ariz. March 21-23.
