by NMOTSC

The waiting is over and the sites and times have been announced by the New Mexico Activities Association for the final three state football championship games.

On Friday night in Clovis, the Class 5A title will be decided as Mayfield and Clovis will square off.

Mayfield has defeated Rio Rancho, 57-16 and Cibola, 26-14 to get to the championship.

Clovis has defeated La Cueva, 21-17 and Las Cruces, 37-29.

Game time is set for 6:00.

The two teams met back in the opening week as Mayfield beat Clovis 38-20 in Las Cruces.

Clovis will be search of their 14th state title, while Mayfield, the back-to-back defending state champ, will be looking to defend their title.

In Class 4A, District 4 rivals will hook up as Artesia will be going after their 26th state championship. Game time is set for 1:00 Saturday in the Bulldog Bowl.

Back on November 9, the two teams squared off in a game won by Artesia.

Goddard will be in search of their first state title since 1997, when the Rockets beat Clovis 3-0.

Artesia advances to the championship game with wins over Moriarty, 47-27 and Kirtland, 42-0. Goddard has defeated Capital, 21-6, and Aztec, 21-16.

In Class 3A, St. Mikes and Robertson, District 2 rivals, will play in famed Ivan Head Stadium in Santa Fe, Saturday at 1:00. St. Mikes won the toss and has elected to play at Ivan Head due to the crowd expected.

Robertson is the two-time defending state champ and St. Mikes is the 2003 state champ.

The two teams met in Santa Fe on October 27 as the Horsemen defeated the Cardinals 24-15.

Robertson came from behind in their first playoff game, defeating Hot Springs 19-9 and then scored in the final 30 seconds Saturday to beat Raton 28-21.

The Horsemen have handled their three opponents, beating Cuba 54-0, then rallied to beat Bloomfield 23-15 before shutting out Academy 21-0.

NMOTSC will have live up-dates throughout the day on all three games.
