The 54th Annual Stu Clark tournament brings a field which resembles a state tournament to Las Vegas, December 27, 28 and 29.

Defending Class 4A champ St. Pius (5-2) leads a star-studded field which includes the number three team in Class 3A, Pojoaque (8-0) and the number four team in 4A, Artesia (5-1). The field also includes 5-1 West Las Vegas, which is considered to be the number four team in 3A, according to the latest NMOTSC.com poll. Always competitive as well as a team which appears to always peak toward playoff time, Portales (2-3), along with Robertson (2-3), Bernalillo (4-6) and Shiprock (4-4) round out the field.

Action starts Thursday at 1 as St. Pius and Portales tip things off. At 3 is perhaps the marquee game of the opening round as Artesia and Pojoaque will do battle. Two of the state’s top scorers, Pojoaque’s Ryan Gonzales and Artesia’s Derek Montoya will square off.

In the evening session, West Las Vegas, with leading scorer Kenny Lucero, will entertain an entertaining Shiprock team who is averaging 70 points per outing.

The nightcap at 8 will feature a Bernalillo team which appears to be finding its groove under coach Terry Darnell and Robertson, which is under new head coach Doug Cavanaugh.
