Taos Hires Football and Soccer Head Coaches

by NMOTSC

Taos: Taos High School has a new head football coach in the name of Rex Stevenson. And who is Rex Stevenson?  Stevenson is a retried Florida based law enforcement officer.

Taos athletic Director James Branch noted that Stevenson’s credentials appear great in that he has an overall coaching record of 245 wins,  52 loses and seven ties. He is a member of the American Football Association Semi-Pro Hall of Fame. According to his resume, he was also a head football coach for a Louisiana high school special education team.

Taos thought they had a coach several weeks ago when Taos graduate and former Robertson head coach Art Abreu appeared to be the top choice, but Abreu withdrew his name citing family reasons.

In other Taos coaching news, Lee Backer will assume the responsibilities of the soccer program at the school. Baker was the program’s JV coach. The Taos native and 1998 graduate played soccer for the Tigers. He replaces Jake Mossman
