Two WNMU Mustangs Earn Places on Don Hansen's Football Gazette All-Southwest Region Team

Silver City: Seniors Rod Windsor (Bessemer, AL) and Christian Serena (Scottsdale, AZ) were both placed on the 2007 Don Hansen's Football Gazette All-Southwest Region Teams on Friday. Windsor was placed on the Third Team Offense; whereas Serena got the nod on the Second Team Defense.

Windsor was first on the team in receptions (81 receiptions), total yards (1119 yards), receiving touchdowns (6), and average yardage per game (111.9 yards/game). He also averaged 13.9 yards per reception.

For his efforts, he was named RMAC Football Offensive Player of the Week twice (9-24-07 and 11-12-07)and All-RMAC Football First Team - Offense (11-19-07). He was most recently picked to play in the Cactus Bowl. The wide receiver will represent the Mustangs in the January 11 contest in Kingsville, Texas. The Cactus Bowl is played in an East/West format and the teams are comprised entirely of the ‘best of the best’ NCAA Division II college seniors. 

Serena led the team in almost every defensive category. He tallied 48 solo tackles, 78 assist tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss good for 82 yards, 7.5 sacks good for 55 yards, two fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles. 

Serena was also placed on the All-RMAC First Team and a second team member of the 2007 Daktronics, Inc. Division II All-Southwest Region Football Team. Earlier in the season, he was the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week two separate times.

This marks the sixth year Football Gazette has selected NCAA Division II All-Region teams. The national
publication, an authority on small college football, has selected NCAA Division II All-America teams since 1998.

The first-team and second-team All-Region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2007
NCAA Division II Football Gazette All-America team will be named later this month.

A total of 93 players earned some form of Football Gazette All-Southwest Region honors. Players from 24 of the 35 football-playing schools in the Southwest Region earned All-Southwest Region accolades.
