UNM Men's Tennis Beats Oregon 6-1

ALBUQUERQUE,
tennis team earned its third win of the season by
defeating the Oregon Ducks 6-1 on Saturday. The Lobos
improve to 3-4 with a shot at .500.
The Lobos swept the doubles for the second time this
season and then won five singles matches. Max Jones and
Kamil Pajkowski improved to 11-3 overall, 5-1 at No. 1,
with an 8-2 victory over Marcos Verdasco and Geoff Embry.
Chris Parkes and Johnny Parkes beat Alexander Cornelissen
and Mike Myrhed 8-5 at No. 2. Graeme Kassautzki and Joe
Wood quickly went up 5-0 and only allowed one point, 8-1,
over Francisco Gallardo and Stephen Weichert.
In singles, Kassautzki held a slight 4-3 lead in both
sets and each time won 6-3 over Embry. His doubles
partner, Wood had a quick 6-2, 6-3 win against Myrhed.
Johnny Parkes defeated Gallardo 6-2, 6-4.
The other three matches needed at least a tiebreaker to
get through. Jones won the first set but went into a
10-point tiebreaker third set. He won 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-2)
to improve to 9-4 overall. Miles Bugby returned to the
court after sitting since Jan. 19 and won 7-6 (7-5), 6-1
against Romero Mortera. Cornelissen came out ahead of the
long match with Pajkowski 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) to
give the Ducks their lone point.
The Lobos will finish the weekend by playing singles
against Northern Arizona tonight at 7 p.m.
