by WNMU Athletics

Silver City: Christian Serena (Scottsdale, AZ) has received another football honor for his work during the 2007 season.  This time Serena is placed on the 2007 Football Gazette All-America Team Honorable Mention.

Serena led the team in almost every defensive category. He tallied 48 solo tackles, 78 assist tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss good for 82 yards, 7.5 sacks good for 55 yards, two fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles.

Serena was also placed on the All-RMAC First Team and a second team member of the 2007 Daktronics, Inc. Division II All-Southwest Region Football Team. Earlier in the season, he was the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week two separate times.

This marks the 20th year Don Hansen’s Football Gazette, a recognized authority on small college football, has selected an NCAA Division II All-America team. The national publication selected All-Region teams with the first-team and second-team All-Region players from each of the four geographic regions (Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest) comprising the national ballot, which was voted upon by a select national panel.

A total of 146 players earned some form of Football Gazette All-America honors. Players from 72 of the 150 football-playing schools in Division II earned Football Gazette All-America accolades. National runner-up NW Missouri State led the way by placing four players on the first-team All-America squad.
