Zia Softball Earns Weekly Honors

RICHARDSON, TEXAS After a week that saw the Eastern New Mexico University softball team post a perfect 6-0 record, a .558 batting average and a 1.17 earned run average, Rebecca Quinones (So., 2B, Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert HS) has been selected as the Lone Star Conference South Division hitter of the week and Natalie Woodside (Jr., Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) was named LSC South Pitcher of the Week.

Quinones batted .765 (13-17) for the week, pounding out an astounding 1.294 slugging percentage with six doubles and a home run. She finished the week with a team-best 12 runs batted in and scored nine runs. She hit safely in all but one of the six games, registering multiple hits in four contests including a four-for-four performance with two doubles against College of the Southwest. In the second game against the Mustangs, she turned in a six-RBI performance.

Woodside turned in a near perfect week on the mound, posting a 3-0 record in 13 shutout innings. She fanned 11 batters while only allowing one walk and just a .174 batting average with no extra base hits to the opposition. Woodside performed equally well at the plate, batting .500 for the week with two home runs and seven RBI.

The Zias, currently on an eight-game winning streak will travel to Phoenix, Arizona, this week to compete in the NCAA Division II Schutt Sports Leadoff Classic.
